The Vermilion Agricultural Society hosted a volunteer night on Thursday where community members joined forces to remove boards from the grandstand’s lower seating area.
Frost has been heaving the cement supports out of the ground forcing some to be propped up with boards over the years.
“We have to expose the piles so in order to correct it, we have to tear five rows of seating off the grandstand,” said vice-president Heine Westergaard.
Once the boards are removed, they will use a jackhammer to remove the existing piles and replace them with new piling.
Piles have been commonly used because they are capable of bearing greater loads.
Once complete, the Ag Society believes they’ll have a smoother, safer seating area for community events.
“Community members and area businesses will be donating products or equipment, and we would like to thank the volunteers who have helped out a few different times so far,” said Westergaard.
