Drive-in event hosted by Fresh Air Cinema (Fresh Air Cinema)

Drive-in movie raising money for LPSD student lunches

The Reels on Wheels drive-in is hosting a movie night to raise money for Lloydminster Public School Division students.

On August 26, the drive-in movie tour will be holding their COVID-friendly event at the Lloyd Mall.

All of the proceeds from the event will be going to the Lloydminster Public School Division’s Nutrition Fund.

LPSD Superintendent of Education Trisha Rawlake, expressed gratitude for the fundraiser providing a boost to the program as kids return to school.

“We are so appreciative of Silverwood Toyota for their partnership with LPSD on this fundraiser,” said Rawlake.

“Every year the number of children who require support with daily nutrition seems to increase, and fundraisers like these help us support our students and families. The grant we normally receive was cut to less than half for this upcoming school year, so every dollar helps.”

She added this event will help alleviate some of the stress families are facing as kids return to classrooms with new guidelines.

“This will be one less stress for our students and parents as we start off our school year together. We are thankful that we can work together as a community to meet the needs of our children. It has been a difficult year for some of our families, being able to support our children with healthy snacks is one less thing to worry about.”

The Reels on Wheels drive-in movie tour will visit 24 communities across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia raising money for a local charity in the community.

Sheldon Lachambre from Prairie Toyota Dealers, said he enjoys watching the communities come together to support a good cause.

“In a difficult time like right now, it’s good to partner with a charity like the nutrition fund in Lloydminster to give back to those [families] who are in a tough time with kids heading back to school. My favourite part is seeing the smiling faces on the families and their kids that show up that have never been to a drive-in theatre.”

Tickets to the event are free of charge but will require a minimum donation of $1.

Guests will be allowed to enter the event at 7:30 p.m., and Disney’s Onward will begin playing at 9:30 p.m.

Anyone who would like to participate in the Lloyd drive-in can get their tickets on the Reels on Wheels website.
