The City of Lloydminster has announced a COVID-19 webinar focused on overcoming loss.
The City has invited Grief Counselor, Bill Harder, with the Hospice Society of Camrose and District, to speak through Zoom to Lloydminster residents.
Patrick Lancaster, Manager of Social Programs and Services with the City of Lloydminster said the workshop came about after talking with community partners.
He mentioned the City that COVID-19 is causing a lot of stress focused around loss.
“People have lost connection, some people have lost their jobs, some people have lost their businesses. So as we were looking for different resources that we could bring into the community, Bill Harder’s name came up,” said Lancaster.
Bill Harder has spoken to Lloydminster residents before for another workshop.
“He’s going to give people a little bit of an understanding around what grief is and the emotions that play into that, as well as explore some techniques and mechanisms to help people to manage and cope with those feelings and with that stress,” said Lancaster.
There have been several live stream events over the last few months in hopes to bring residents a better understand of their current situation.
“We’re hoping that residents will have the opportunity to take in the event, to take in the information and that it’ll give them some new tools and a better understand of grief and some different ways to deal with it.”
The event will be recorded and posted for those unable to join the presentation, but Lancaster states it would be best to join in if you can.
“There’s always just something about when you take in these things live even when they are online that makes them all the more impactful.”Patrick Lancaster, Manager of Social Programs and Services with the City of Lloydminster
There are plans to bring more events like this to Lloydminster but the City is not able to release any further information about these online meetings because the contracts have not been signed yet.
The webinar is taking place 12-1 p.m. on Friday July 3, 2020.
